My landlord wants a $500 pet fee - is this normal?

I just signed a lease for a pet-friendly apartment, but my landlord is asking for a one-time pet fee of $500. I've never rented with a pet before and I'm unsure if this is standard. Is this normal or should I be worried about potentially hidden costs? Red flag or no?
