Is a 15% rent increase legal in February 2026?

My landlord just informed me that my rent will go up by 15% next month. I've only been here for a year and didn't expect such a steep increase. Is this normal or allowed? Should I be worried about this kind of rent hike, or is it just something landlords can do? Red flag or no?
