Landlord trying to raise rent mid-lease - can they do this?

My landlord just informed me they plan to raise my rent by 15% mid-lease, claiming increased maintenance costs. I’ve checked my lease, and it’s a fixed term. Has anyone been through this? What are my rights and options here? I'm on a tight budget and can't afford a significant increase.
