Need advice on renting in the Beach area - is it worth it?

I'm looking to move to Toronto and I've been eyeing the Beach area. I love the vibe and proximity to the waterfront, but I'm seeing prices around $2500 for a 1-bedroom. Is it worth it for the location? Also, are there any good amenities I should know about nearby?
