Neighborhood security - how safe is it for empty nesters?

As I'm considering downsizing to a condo in Toronto, I'm curious about neighborhood safety. How secure are the buildings, especially regarding bike theft and break-ins? Also, is it safe to walk around at night? I’d love to hear experiences or tips from other empty nesters!
