Parking Costs in Toronto: Are They Insane?

Has anyone else been stunned by the parking costs in Toronto? I mean, how much for a monthly spot? The fees can be outrageous. Is street parking a viable alternative, or is it just a hassle? I keep wondering if it's worth paying for parking at all! What do you think?
