Complicated subletting situation with family complications

I'm looking to sublet my apartment for three months while caring for a sick family member out of state. My lease allows subletting, but my landlord seems hesitant about approving anyone I suggest. I’m not sure how to navigate this. Has anyone been through something similar? Any advice?
