Rent increases are out of control - how are we supposed to survive?

Another rent increase, seriously?! My landlord just slapped on a $400 hike this year! How is anyone supposed to afford this? I’m losing my mind here—viewed 15 places only to find they've already been taken within hours. This market is impossible!
