Worry About Special Assessments for Renters in Condos

I'm concerned about the recent special assessment affecting our condo. Do renters typically bear the costs of increased condo fees? I'm worried about the rent increase because of this assessment and if other renters might be leaving due to these extra costs. How should I approach this situation?
