Why is Toronto housing so ridiculously expensive?

I've been shocked to see how pricey Toronto housing is! Seriously, why is it that even NYC seems cheaper than this city? When comparing to Vancouver, it's a head-scratcher. Are prices justified or just out of control? Makes you question what’s happening in the market!
