Need advice on verifying a landlord's legitimacy this spring

I found a rental listing that seems great, but I'm worried it might be a scam. The landlord is asking for a deposit before meeting in person. I've looked up their name and the property, but can't find much. Has anyone dealt with this? What steps can I take to ensure they are legitimate?
