Landlord wants to evict due to unauthorized pet - need guidance

I adopted a cat last month without notifying my landlord. They're now issuing an eviction notice for violating the lease. I've never been late on rent and my cat is quiet and well-behaved. What are my rights and options? Has anyone been in a similar situation?
