How do people afford Toronto anymore?

I genuinely don't understand how anyone can afford to live in Toronto these days. With soaring rents, it feels like only rich people can survive here. I've heard landlords even offer free rent or move-in incentives—are those real? What income is needed? How do regular folks manage?
