Seeking flexible lease options - month-to-month inquiries

I'm in the search for a rental in Toronto and really need some flexibility. I don't want to commit to a long lease, but I'm unsure how long I'll be in the area. Are there landlords who offer month-to-month leases or options to convert to monthly after a year? Is that normal?
