Strange Lease Clauses - Help!

I’m baffled by some lease clauses I’ve come across. One landlord wants a pet deposit even though pets aren’t allowed! And another requires I clean the common areas twice a week. Is it normal for landlords to have such odd requirements? Can I negotiate these terms?
