Reality check question - is my landlord's request normal?

My landlord just informed me that he wants to conduct weekly inspections of the apartment, citing the need to 'ensure everything is in order.' Is this normal, or should I be worried? It feels excessive to me, but maybe I'm being naive about rental practices.
