How's the commute from 280 Morningside Ave to downtown everyday

I'm considering moving to 280 Morningside Ave with my kids and want to know about the daily commute to downtown. Is the TTC service reliable and convenient for rush hour? Also, can you manage without a car in that area? Any insights are appreciated!
