How do you deal with thin walls and noisy neighbors in Toronto apartments?

I just moved into a newer condo near Liberty Village and the walls are paper thin. I can hear my neighbors' TV, conversations, even their phone calls. It's getting really hard to sleep and work from home. Has anyone found effective ways to deal with this? Should I talk to building management or try soundproofing myself? Any recommendations for white noise machines that actually work?
