Lost out again! Rent bidding wars are brutal in Toronto

I just got outbid again on a place I thought was a sure thing. Someone offered $300 over asking! How are people even able to do this? I'm feeling so stressed trying to find a decent apartment with all this competition. Is everyone really paying these crazy prices?
