Shocked by insane 1-bedroom rent increases in Toronto!

I can't believe I'm seeing 30-50% higher rents for 1-bedrooms! Same buildings are charging totally different prices. Why is rent suddenly $500 more for new tenants? It's frustrating to realize there’s such a drastic gap in what I pay versus new renters. What's with this turnover rent spike?
