Roommate wants to break lease due to personal issues - options?

My roommate is facing some personal issues and wants to move out, but we're both on the lease for another 5 months. I've considered finding a new roommate, but I'm also worried about how this may affect the lease. Has anyone gone through something similar? What are our best options?
