When did $2000/month become 'reasonable' for a shoebox?!

I'm so fed up with Toronto's rental market. My rent just shot up by 10%, but the place still has a leaky sink and ancient appliances. I'm career-focused and need the location, but paying for convenience shouldn't mean settling for poor conditions. Frustrating!
