Need help finding affordable rentals in Downtown East!

Hi everyone! I'm moving to Toronto next month and need to find something affordable in the Downtown East area. My budget is around $1500/month, but I'm seeing most places listed for much higher. Any tips on neighborhoods to explore or where I might find lower rents? Really appreciate any help!
