2249 Birchmount Rd and the changing scene in the area

I've been eyeing 2249 Birchmount Rd since I love the idea of being close to transit. The Birchmount subway line looks decent, but I've heard mixed things about the walkability. Anyone know what local shops or parks might be nearby? It's got that up-and-coming feel to me.
