Just lost out again! Did someone really offer $300 over asking?

I'm so stressed right now. I just got outbid AGAIN on a rental! This time, I saw a place listed for $1,800, and someone offered $2,100! How are people coming up with these crazy amounts? I feel like I'm losing my mind trying to find a place in this competitive market. Anyone else dealing with this?
