Upstairs neighbor stomps at all hours - need solutions!

My upstairs neighbor has feet like they're in a marching band, especially late at night! It's impossible to sleep with the noise. I've tried talking to them, but it hasn't helped. How do you deal with noisy neighbors like this? Anyone have tips on resolving it without escalating things?
