Are post-dated cheques still a thing for renting?

Seriously, is the landlord really demanding post-dated cheques? Can I pay via e-transfer or another modern payment method instead? It's 2023, and using cheques feels so outdated. Why are we still stuck in the past when there are so many easy alternatives?
