Moving to Toronto - need help with neighborhoods and rent prices!

I'm relocating to Toronto this August for a new job and am overwhelmed by the rental market. Looking for 1BR apartments under $2200, but I have no idea which neighborhoods are best. Is there a decent area around Yonge and Eglinton? Any advice would be appreciated!
