Average rent for a 1BR in Toronto hit $2400 - who can afford this?

It's hard to believe that just a few years ago, we were paying $1200 for a 1BR. Now, the average rent has skyrocketed to $2400. For those making a decent salary, it's tough to stay afloat when that eats up over 60% of our income. How is anyone supposed to afford rent in Toronto anymore?
