Constantly getting outbid in Toronto rentals - any advice?

I just lost out on another rental today, and I'm feeling so stressed! Someone offered $300 over asking, and it's getting ridiculous. How are people coming up with these crazy offers? Anyone else in this boat? Is there any strategy to stand out in this insane competition?
