Toronto movers added surprise fuel surcharge on move day help

I recently moved from Junction Triangle back downtown and was shocked when the moving company added a $150 fuel surcharge at the last minute. Has anyone else experienced this? How do other moving companies in Toronto handle extra charges? I just want to avoid any more surprises!
