Why are moving costs in toronto so high for a 1 bedroom apartment

I just got quoted over $1,200 for movers to help me move from a walkup in Little Italy to a place in Parkdale. Does anyone know why it's so expensive? I thought I’d find cheaper options but the prices just keep climbing, especially at month-end. Are there hidden fees I should watch out for?
