How much do same day movers cost in toronto after a bad landlord

I had to make a same-day move from a condo near Yonge and Sheppard after my landlord turned out to be a nightmare. The initial quote was $250, but they charged me double by the end of the day! Anyone else faced unexpected costs with movers in Toronto? What should I have done differently?
