Surprise fees from movers in toronto why is it always more expensive?

I booked the cheapest movers I could find for my 1-bedroom in Markham, and they threw in over $300 in surprise charges on move day! I really thought I was saving money. Has anyone else dealt with this? How can I avoid this kind of stress next time? Deadline is next week and I’m panicking!
