Toronto moving companies unexpected damage charges who pays

I just moved out of my Riverdale rental and the landlord is claiming $500 for pre-existing damage that I pointed out before the move. Does anyone know how this usually plays out? I'm worried about potential costs from the movers if they damage anything during the process too. Help!
