Toronto moving companies added surprise fuel surcharge anyone else?

I'm moving out of my North York condo near the subway next week, and I just got hit with a surprise fuel surcharge from the movers. Has anyone experienced extra charges on moving day? How do I avoid this when budgeting? Any tips for moving around transit-heavy areas in Toronto?
