How to deal with cash-only demands from movers in toronto

I just had a moving crew demand cash only on the day of my move from a 3-bedroom house in Riverdale. No receipt, no contract. It felt shady, and I’m worried about getting scammed. Is this a common thing with movers in Toronto, or did I just get unlucky?
