Moving from downtown toronto to scarborough costs and surprises

I'm trying to budget my move from a tiny downtown apartment to a 1960s walk-up in Scarborough and I'm shocked at the quotes. I got an hourly rate but they added a $100 fuel surcharge on the day. Is this standard? I'm hoping to keep costs under $800!
