How much do movers cost toronto for a small studio move

I'm moving a small studio in King West with just one truckload. The movers quoted me $300, but they took way longer than expected and now I'm worried the final bill will skyrocket. Has anyone experienced this before? What should I do to avoid those surprise charges?
