Renters insurance moving to new apartment in toronto is it worth it

I’m moving from a spacious place in Forest Hill to a smaller unit in the suburbs next week. My landlord mentioned I should get renters insurance, but is it really necessary? I've heard mixed things, and with moving costs piling up, I don't want to spend more if I don't have to.
