Hidden fees shattering my budget moving in toronto help

I’m moving from my 3-bedroom condo in the Beach to a 2-bedroom unit in midtown this weekend, but I've heard Toronto moving companies often add hidden fees. Is it normal to pay extra for stairs or large furniture? How can I avoid being blindsided on move day? I don't want my $800 budget to explode!
