How do i avoid surprise charges with toronto movers when moving back downtown

I'm moving from a rental house in Riverdale back downtown and I'm stressed about costs. Last time, my movers scratched the floors and wouldn't take responsibility, so I'm hesitant to choose a company. Any advice on how to avoid surprise charges on moving day, especially for a 1-bedroom apartment?
