How safe is the Scarborough area for families?

I'm considering renting in Scarborough and have a family with young kids. Safety is a top priority for us, so I want to know about crime rates and any neighborhoods in Scarborough that are known to be particularly safe. Any advice or resources for checking this would be appreciated.
