Tips for moving elderly parent from scarborough condo to smaller place

I'm feeling overwhelmed trying to pack up my mom's 1960s walk-up in Scarborough and coordinate a move to a smaller condo by the end of the month. Has anyone used furniture-only movers for heavy stuff? I keep hearing mixed reviews on costs; should we expect extra charges on move day?
