Moving day chaos: The elevator broke & we were on the 12th floor!

Worst moving day ever! The elevator in my apartment building broke down just as we started loading the truck. We had to carry all our furniture and boxes up 12 flights of stairs. My legs still ache! Anyone have advice on how to handle moving day disasters like this? It's rough out there!
