Why is Downsizing in Toronto Such a Nightmare?

I can't believe the hoops we have to jump through to find a decent condo here. Rent prices are skyrocketing, and landlords seem indifferent to any maintenance issues. It's like I'm paying luxury rates for a shoebox that's crumbling around me.
