How much do movers cost toronto student moving in september

I’m moving to Scarborough from out of province this September for school and just got quoted $1,200 for a simple 1-bedroom move. I’ve heard horror stories of extra charges popping up on the day. How do I avoid surprise costs with movers? Anyone had a good experience lately?
