Is it normal for landlords to request employment letters?

Hey everyone! I recently had a landlord ask for my employment letter and bank statements before signing a lease. It made me wonder if this is typical practice in Toronto or a red flag. Have any of you encountered similar situations? Would love to hear your thoughts!
