Lost another bid - how are people offering so much over asking?

Just got outbid again, and honestly, this is becoming exhausting. I’ve seen places go for $300 over asking, and I can’t understand how people can afford this. Is it common for rentals to get this competitive? Feeling like I'm fighting an uphill battle here. Anyone else feeling this stress?
