Curious about negotiating rent in a soft market?

With the rental market in 2025 feeling quite soft, I've noticed some apartments sitting empty for weeks. Can I offer less than the asking rent without losing out? It seems like the days of bidding wars are behind us, so I'm hopeful I can negotiate down a bit.
